Richard Carlin is an author, editor, and musician, with over 30 years experience writing about music.

I was awarded a Grammy Award in 2017 for best liner notes for the release, Sissle and Blake Sing Shuffle Along. My latest book, Country Music: A Very Short Introduction, was published by Oxford University Press in November 2019, and my coauthored book, Eubie Blake: Rags, Rhythm, and Race (with Ken Bloom) was published by Oxford on August 10, 2020.  Other books include Godfather of the Music Business: Morris Levy (University of Mississippi Press, 2016), and about 20 other titles.  I have produced over 15 albums for Smithsonian-Folkways Records.
